I’m officially done with my internship, and my last week included wrapping up many tasks, such as the public service announcement (PSA) and my story on their recent exoneration. Also, last week, my supervisor, Spencer Sikes, informed me that he plans to create a cartoon to use as the PSA for social media. So, I was tasked with creating some ideas for the cartoon. On Monday, I received a response from Steve Sheinkin, author of “The Port Chicago 50: Disaster, Mutiny, and the Fight for Civil Rights,” on some follow-up questions about the Port Chicago 50, like how many of the 258 were dishonorably discharged.
Monday and Tuesday were dedicated to going through the story, identifying the details I needed to add, and researching the benefits the Port Chicago 50 (POCH 50) lost. Thursday was dedicated to the cartoon. We added more to my idea and created the script for it. The cartoon will be about a conversation between a dad (Gen X) and daughter (Gen Z) on the POCH 50. In order to officially end my last day of the internship, Mr. Sikes edited my story, and I began to make those edits.
