Week 6 Internship Diary: March 10 – 14

This week was dedicated to understanding and creating a public service announcement (PSA) for the ads. On Friday of last week, Mr. Sikes, my supervisor, asked me to begin writing a PSA to send out to the black churches. I used a short outline for creating the PSA, which included short, simple, actionable, and starting with a hook. We started the week by revising my PSA by adding more background information on the Port Chicago 50 (POCH 50) and the problem’s context and solution. As we began working on the PSA, I also created a list of black churches to which we can send the PSA, like the First A.M.E locations.

On Tuesday, Mr. Sikes and I did not meet, but I was tasked with writing more of my story on “Why did it take the U.S. Navy 80 years to exonerate the POCH 50.” When we met again on Thursday, he began editing what I have so far in my story. He gave me feedback on some questions I should consider answering. We officially ended the week by identifying the criteria for black churches and the U.S. Navy questions.
