Week 3 Internship Diary: Feb. 17 – 21

This week marked the third week of my internship with Bajari LLC. Week 3 was dedicated to deep-dive research. My supervisor, Spencer Sikes, was on travel all week, so I was alone. Last week, I was tasked with getting a hold of Steve Sheinkin’s book “Port Chicago: Disaster, Mutiny, and the Fight for Civil Rights.” As I was waiting for the book to be delivered to the nearest library branch, I drafted up some social media and newspaper ads, scheduled an interview with Rev. Diana McDaniel (the President of the Friends of Port Chicago), and worked on sample questions for Yuli Padmore (executive director of the Port Chicago Alliance) and McDaniel.

For the second half of the week, I reached out to Padmore multiple times, and we scheduled a meet and greet for the first week of March. I received the book from the library on Wednesday, so Thursday and Friday were dedicated to reading the book. The book helped me answer questions I had about the disaster. To officially end the week, I started working on the sample questions for Sheinkin and I sent the ads to Alfredo Rivera (Graphic Artist for Bajari LLC) and Spencer Sikes for feedback.
