This week marked the second week of my internship at Bajari LLC. Week 2 was dedicated to research planning and preliminary investigations. My weekly tasks included getting “The Port Chicago 50: Disaster, Mutiny, and The Fight For Civil Rights” by Steve Sheinkin, analyzing symbolism in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance, contacting Yuli Padmore (Executive Director of the Port Chicago Alliance), creating sample questions for the interviewees like Padmore, and creating Instagram social media ads. I started the week by scheduling an interview with Steve Sheinkin, which was my first mistake during the internship. I accidentally replied to the email using my personal email address, not my company one.
We discussed Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance for the rest of the week, focusing on symbolism and answering the question, “How does Kendrick Lamar’s message correlate to the POCH 50?” Lamar’s halftime performance had a lot of symbolism, such as Uncle Sam, 40 acres and a mule, the American flag, and the Great American Game. Therefore, to end the week, I started working on sample questions for Padmore, Sheinkin, and Rev. Diana McDaniel (the President of the Friends of Port Chicago National Memorial) and working on the “In Search Of” social media ads.
